As Austin’s only major public space, the hike and bike trail along Lady Bird Lake plays an important role in the life of the city.  My design for the Texas Rowing Center takes advantage of its siting along this public edge by straddling the trail and strengthening the public connection to the waterfront. The rowing center buildings are organized around a plaza that extends from the road down to the water’s edge. Within this realm, space is loosely deliniated for user groups, maintaining the friction existing between runners and rowers without causing disruption to the activity of each.
